What a wonderful time those two weeks are between the last NFL playoff game and the Super Bowl. The strategy... the stats... the watercooler discussions about the players' qualities...
What? You thought we were talking about football?
No. We're talking about the Baltimore Ravens' Ray Lewis and the way he called Sports Illustrated and Yahoo! Sports the devil for asking him questions about using deer antler extract to treat an injury. (And don't you dare even ask about that double homicide in 2000.) We're talking about 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver saying, "Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah, nah. Can't be in the locker room man, nah," when asked if there were any gays on his team. (This from a guy who plays for San Francisco, a bastion of gay pride.)
And we're talking about former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, who is scheduled to work the CBS pre-game show when the big game finally rolls around on Sunday, admitting that he paid a CBS employee millions of dollars not to reveal the love child they conceived in 2005. ("My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together. And we continue to be a strong and loving family," Marino insisted.)
Maybe the NFL should go to just one week of hype leading up to the Super Bowl. That way, we can all get back more quickly to talking about the things that really matter -- like who Taylor Swift is going to dump next.
