On the Night Table: Kal Barteski
Winnipeg artist and painter
"The visual dialogue in the novel The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern left me swimming in dreams about black and white circuses and incredible magic. I couldn't put it down. It was one of my favourite books in a very long time and haunts me only slightly more than Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. Wow. Horan's story of Frank Lloyd Wright and his mistress was riveting, with its completely unexpected and horrifying ending. The animal lover in me was fascinated with We Bought a Zoo by Benjamin Mee. The politics and logistics of running a zoo are truly complicated and extraordinary. The movie was absolutely terrible."
