On the Night Table: Kelby Loeppky

Grade 12 student at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler and YWCA woman of distinction

"Recently, I finished reading The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver. I immediately had a connection with it because most of it takes place in Tucson, Ariz., where I spent some of my childhood with my family doing voluntary service. I enjoyed how Kingsolver was able to depict so many different walks of life, yet put them together into a captivating novel. However, one of my best reads has been The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. Despite its length, I found it a worthwhile book as the story fully developed and I became immersed in it. I am very intrigued by historical fiction. Another favourite of mine is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, and currently I'm working on an earlier book of his, The Kite Runner."
