On the Night Table: Adrian Smith

Iron Maiden guitarist

"I'd like to say I'm reading an intellectual, highbrow and philosophical book, but it's Sammy Hagar's autobiography, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock, which is a whirlwind, incredible story. Obviously, we have a certain amount of things in common, so it's interesting reading someone else's slant on it. Hagar talks about just doing the road work like we did in the SSRq80s, but he did it in the SSRq70s with Montrose and opening for all these bands like we did, bands we grew up listening to. It's amazing when you're in that position and seeing it all grow and all of the sudden you're headlining. It's great, really, but there have been a lot of miles in between."
