Letter of the Day

A city of many facets

  • Print

I am getting a little tired of people painting everyone in Steinbach with the same brush (Letters, March 11). A few weeks ago, after someone from B.C. described Winnipeg as a place that was mosquito-ridden in summer and frigidly cold in winter, many Winnipeggers wrote strong letters to to defend this city, and rightly so.

Well, the truth is that Winnipeg does have mosquitoes in summer, and it does experience cold weather in winter. However, we also know that Winnipeg has some of the most wonderful arts offerings and some of the greatest restaurants available in Canada, as well as some of the most wonderfully kind people.

Well, now I'm representing those of us who live in Steinbach and are upset with Winnipeggers who assume this small city includes only people who are less than tolerant towards gays and lesbians. Steinbach may not have the variety of restaurants Winnipeg does, but we are home to many wonderful music concerts as well as a lot of wonderfully kind and inclusive people.

Before you brush with a single stroke, please consider how you feel when your city receives unfair, bad press.
