Letter of the Day
A poorly timed move
It is frustrating to have the city's leaf depot sites closed for the first time in years, just as the leaves are falling from the trees. The new yard pickup system will work fine in a newer neighbourhood, but in an established neighbourhood with multiple trees it will take many yard pick-up dates to get rid of all of my leaves.
As well, open, untied paper bags in a city as windy as Winnipeg will only lead to more mess than composting.
I appreciate the idea of composting our yard waste instead of sending it to the landfill, but maybe implement this over the summer rather than force it in place during the leafiest and largest collection time of the year.
