Letter of the Day
Beauty and the bicycle
I agree with Coun. Jenny Gerbasi that the renovated Osborne Street bridge is beautiful (Beauty and the bridge (SundayExtra, Dec. 2), but my appreciation of its beauty has been severely compromised by the fact that no bicycle lanes have been incorporated into its new design.
If, as Gerbasi states, there were "artists on the technical side working side by side with the engineers," then why were bicycle lanes omitted? This was a golden opportunity to prepare for bicycle traffic that has increased in recent years and that will, in all likelihood, increase a great deal more in the years to come.
This failure and appalling lack of vision on the part of the artists, engineers, mayor and council is totally inexcusable.
