Letter of the Day
Bound by ideology
Re: Defaming messenger (Letters, May 18). I am an independent voter and 22 years old, the same age as Brigette DePape. By holding up a sign with two words on it in the middle of the Senate floor, she displayed absolutely none of the "strength and conviction" that is so obvious to Robert L. Bagamery.
Sure, it requires some chutzpah to be that disrespectful to one's employer in public, but that's hardly the same thing as true conviction. Since then, DePape has made a career of travelling the country and holding up her sign whenever a politician says something she -- or, more accurately, her taskmasters at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives -- disagrees with. This when she's not parroting their lines at rallies.
And this makes her some sort of role model? She is at least as bound by ideology as "the Harper gang," and neither crowd has done much good for us lately. If people like her are the alternative to Harper, I weep for Canada.
