While there's a degree of political opportunism to Coun. Jeff Browaty's request for a referendum on the issue of rapid transit, there's also a legitimate argument to be made (Tax phobia drives Browaty's crazy rapid-transit 180, May 23).
This winter revealed two important things about this city: the tremendous infrastructure deficit, and an inept civic administration. The city needs to address its priorities and on this issue Browaty is bang on.
Let the taxpayers decide if they want to invest in rapid transit or fix the infrastructure deficit -- and then commit to the required tax increase.
