Re: Case raises concerns over 'stranger care' (June 4). A death in Port Coquitlam, B.C. Unattended children in Winnipeg. A death in Ottawa.
Unlicensed, unmonitored, unregulated childcare is rampant across Canada and, sadly, children and families are suffering dire consequences.
We would not and do not expect families of children ages five to 18 to look for schools on a haphazard basis; we do not expect our senior population to be cared for by just anyone who says they can.
It's time Canada wakes up and recognizes the value of early childhood, the critical importance of childcare for modern Canadian families and their contributions to the economy and, most important of all, the safety and well-being of our youngest citizens.
If we can standardize and regulate light bulbs in Canada, we can do better for children and their care.
