Coach courts disaster

Re: Gassers good for players, GM Mack (Aug. 30). To insist on "gassers" after a full practice under a humidex warning is downright life-threatening. When the reporter questioned this in Wednesday's extreme heat, coach Tim Burke's response was "I don't see anyone falling down." This is sheer ignorance.

In 2001, Korey Stringer of the Minnesota Vikings, widely regarded as one of the best linemen in the NFL, died as a result of complications from heat stroke following a practice in extreme heat and humidity in Minnesota.

His death resulted in the adaption of many new practices by the NFL to protect players' safety in extreme heat conditions (not to mention millions of dollars in lawsuits). I would suggest the Bombers board of directors review their liability coverage with their insurance provider.
