Contributing to belly fat

Letter of the day

Re: Gut feeling (Feb. 19). To suggest that eating grain products and following the Canada Food Guide will help reduce belly fat is totally irresponsible when wheat products appear to be contributing to North America's belly-fat problem in the first place.

According to statistics and research, the rise of obesity, diabetes, celiac, Crohn's and many more diseases coincides with the promotion of these concepts at the same time that our North American wheat was hybridized.

The majority of us eat fruit and veggies and follow a balanced diet without junk food and sugar, and yet we all have belly fat, whether we exercise or not. What is the one thing we all do? Eat wheat products.

In other words, if you lose the wheat you will lose the fat. May I suggest that your readers inform themselves by reading Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes and Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis before following anyone's advice for losing that belly fat.
