According to the Free Press, some recent or planned spending for the city includes:
-- $10 million to ease traffic congestion in the Polo Park area;
-- $722,000 on new city policy advisers;
-- $600,000 to the budget to boost the ward allowance for all 15 councillors;
-- Millions (although the actual numbers are secret) to True North Sports & Entertainment;
-- A $265,000 grant to the Winnipeg Goldeyes;
-- $7.5 million for the Bomber stadium at the University of Manitoba;
-- And additional $28 million to deal with police headquarters problems;
-- $54.3 million for Waverley West roads;
-- $51 million for convention centre expansion;
-- $7.4 million to widen Molson Street;
-- $22 million for IKEA;
-- $262,580 in police headquarters management fees.
And yet, this soulless, business-dominated mayor, council and executive policy committee want to reduce grants to non-profit groups by $358,000.
