Several letters on April 30 (Seniors give, not take) argue that seniors should not have to pay for the education of today's young Manitobans. One even says that "we seniors don't have parents who are responsible for our well-being."
No, you no longer have parents to look after you, but I suspect that you will need assistance from someone in the years to come. You will, in all likelihood, rely on medical professionals, public servants, financial advisers and a host of other highly trained people to help you live your life in comfort and security.
Is it not in your best interests to have well-educated young people in our province who are capable of entering these professions? In the long run, fewer tax dollars for education will hurt seniors as much or more than anyone else.
