In his April 1 column, CRTC is wrong for cable TV, Gwyn Morgan writes that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission shouldn't be regulating cable because there should be a free market, and Canada needs news outlets dedicated to a conservative viewpoint, like Sun TV.
Sun TV is already on the air, and it is losing $17 million a year. Sun Media has said it cannot survive unless it is made "mandatory" so that cable viewers will have to pay for it whether they want it or not.
They are asking for government regulation to force customers to buy a product that the market has already rejected. That is the opposite of the free market. It is a government bailout -- a tax by any other name.
