Letter of the day: Finding friends in Manitoba
My two friends and I arrived from Toronto and Vancouver to play golf and attend the CN Canadian Women's Open golf tournament. We played a quick nine holes the first afternoon, and awoke the next day ready for 36 holes. We opened the trunk of the car -- no clubs. Long story short, three sets of clubs had been stolen out of the trunk.
We did attend the Open on two days, however, and found the volunteers to be most helpful and apologetic about our recent theft of clubs. The best part was the invitation from a very kind gentleman in the line for the shuttle bus after an exciting finish on Sunday, to play his course as a gesture of "putting" the friendly back in Friendly Manitoba. Roy's course? Armed with rentals and Nancy, the charming member of the St. Charles Golf and Country Club, we imagined the crowds roaring on the 18th as we putted our way to imagined glory like Michelle Wie.
Although we are down three sets of clubs and all our golf travel paraphernalia, we left with a lifetime of memories. Thank you, Winnipeg.
