Brandon's Butterscotch freed
Re: To catch a cat (Aug. 9). Awesome work, Brandon and Area Lost Animals co-ordinator Toni Gramiak as well as volunteers Jo-ann Pasklivich-Holder and Sandy Brown. Now, what can be done abut that saboteur/neighbour who harassed the volunteers and prevented animal safety?
So happy Butterscotch the cat is safe. Way to go, Brandon!
Well, I personally am going to celebrate with a catnip highball.
Facebook post provocative
Re: Steeves' wife apologizes for 'drunken native guys' Facebook post (Aug. 9). Although her choice of words was unfortunate, the downtown problem is very real and is well-known not only in Winnipeg, but by any visitor who has spent time there. The release of the Facebook comment was an obvious and calculated move to torpedo Steeves' political ambitions.
I was not very impressed by Steeves prior to this, and I don't condone Mrs. Steeves' comments, but what concerns me more is that a private conversation by an emotionally distraught woman four years ago, publicized out of context, has become such huge media fodder. Her Facebook post had absolutely no impact on the public interest until it was ripped from her personal life and made available to the public as media hype for political gain. I know I have seen similar and more offensive comments, which were intended for public exposure, but they don't make front-page news. I hope we are smart enough to choose a candidate based on their qualifications, and not by what the media consider newsworthy.

How people talk behind closed doors is a good indication of their 'real' racial and social values. Posting this on the World Wide Web was just simply not too bright. No one wants to be called a racist or a bigot but it is odd to see so many on this forum giving her support (many particular posters I might add... don't surprise me). Are you supporting her frustrations or her racial comments? Using the word 'panhandlers' would have done the trick as I have seen many panhandlers of all different ethnicities.
