Letter of the Day
Here's a sober second thought
So Mike Duffy is now going to pay back the $33,000 living allowance to which he was not entitled (Duffy will pay back housing allowance, Feb. 23). If I were to falsely claim expenses at my work, I would likely be fired, face criminal prosecution and be lucky to get off with probation and community service.
Sen. Duffy will get off with a half-hearted apology and shrug of the shoulders.
He also tried but failed to get a PEI health card to help him explain this financial indiscretion.
The Senate was formed to provide sober second thought for the government.
When the only qualification is to be a political hack, lap dog or bully for the governing party, Canadians are provided only senators who become drunk with power.
