Interview 'cursory and sycophantic'
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with your year-end interview with Premier Greg Selinger, Selinger's got game (Dec. 29). As a journalistic exercise, it was cursory at best and uncomfortably sycophantic at worst.
The year 2012 was not a good year of governance by Selinger by any measure. The premier broke his election promise to balance the budget by 2014, even torching through the financial projections of this year's budget. His cabinet ministers sat in the best seats in the MTS Centre with Jets tickets paid for by high-powered lobbyists and the Manitoba taxpayer.

And in perhaps the worst child-welfare scandal in Canadian history, the Phoenix Sinclair inquiry shone a light on the permissiveness by the province of child abuse in Manitoba.
But to read Larry Kusch's year-end piece, you'd think the most important item on the Free Press's radar is whether or not there will be an outdoor NHL game at Investors Group Field, a matter Selinger has little to no influence over.
As it pertained to CFS, the province's finances, Manitoba Hydro and election subsidies, the Free Press ran only pre-prepared statements from the premier with no follow-up questions. Truth to power, indeed.
