Letter of the Day

Is Canada any better?

With regard to the Jan. 3 editorial India won't achieve prominence without justice for women, reprinted from the Toronto Star, the question needs to be asked if Canada is any better.

We may not tolerate the rape of young women on city buses, but we seem to tolerate the murder and disappearance of many invisible and marginalized women. I don't think that India stands alone with "deep-seated, anti-female prejudice built into (its) justice system." The sheer arrogance and self-righteous tone of this editorial is shameful to say the least. This is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
