With regard to the Sam Katz restaurant affair, I don't think it matters so much whether it is $30 or $3,000 we are talking about. It is the principle that is at stake.
To turn a blind eye here would be akin to leaving the cookie jar open and letting the culprit test his limits.
Is this not setting the stage for further, potentially more complex schemes down the line?
What kind of message do we want to send to the public?
I would hope it is one that demonstrates and teaches the importance and necessity of acting in an appropriate and morally sound way when holding a position of high trust and power.
