Kids could 'adopt a reserve'
Re: We Day rewards volunteer spirit (Nov. 23). I am so impressed by the spirit displayed by the organizers of We Day and the activities of the Winnipeg students involved.
I was particularly interested in the "adopt a village" idea, with its emphasis on four important points: education, clean water and sanitation, health care and alternative income.
Perhaps in the future someone will promote the concept of "adopt a reserve" so that our First Nations brothers and sisters can attain these four essential human needs.
I absolutely do not begrudge the assistance given to Haiti, India, China, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Ecuador and Nicaragua. Charity doesn't necessarily have to begin at home, but it would be nice to think it would pop by for a visit once in a while.
