Think of the future
Re: At risk, March 16.
Unfortunately, the fate of Duck Mountain Provincial Park provides yet another example of present-day concerns trumping those of the future. The natural beauty of Manitoba and future environmental conditions of the region are being sacrificed for jobs today.
Job losses are unpleasant and sometimes devastating for workers, families, and communities alike. However, does Manitoba really want an employer that cuts down provincial parks and is so bent on curbing costs that it wishes to do away with pollution controls? The future consequences of continuing to harvest Duck Mountain's forests far outweigh its perceived present-day benefits.
