Letter of the Day
Living in a dream world
Let's see if I if have this right. A bunch of kids with too much money (and they are only kids) and previously employed by the NHL were receiving 57 per cent of hockey-related revenue in addition to their regular salary. The owners, who incidentally take all the risks of the business investment (I do not call it sport), have proposed a 50-50 split.
This seems more than fair, considering the players don't take any risk whatsoever. Perhaps the players should purchase shares in the NHL so they can have some investment in the business.
The players want free-agent status after three years' service so they can increase their wages from $750,000 to $5 million per year. These kids are living in another world.
I love hockey dearly; it has been an integral part of my life. But it's time to lock the players out for the balance of the season and teach these kids a lesson.
