Letter of the Day

Looking for root of crime

  • Print

In response to Mike McIntyre's April 11 article, Death for wearing wrong colours, I say, yes, we as a society should do more for the families and victims of these crimes.

The problem is that we don't see this as a "we" issue. In our current political and societal climate we see this as a "them" issue and attack the perpetrators as the only cause of the problems.

And surely we can see this is not where the problems began. They began in the rampant poverty, family violence, jobless and educational rates, and hopelessness of the last 30 years or so.
