Letter of the Day

Muslim movie promotes hatred

A French magazine has published crude caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad to mock and desecrate the sanctities of Muslim faith under the umbrella of freedom of speech. The magazine has insulted 1.5 billion Muslims, calling them religiously backward people. This intended provocation in the midst of ongoing protest in the Middle East and Asian countries over the anti-Muslim movie Innocence of Muslims seems to be intentionally planned with the blessing of some interest group that wants to play with the emotions and tolerance of Muslims.

I strongly condemn this movie and appeal to all to do the same in order to let people of all faith groups live in peace and harmony. As the publication and distribution of anti-Semitic posters in Winnipeg were considered an attack against the entire community, the creation of the movie and publication of the cartoons should also be considered offensive hate material and governments should take corrective measures to protect the targeted faith group and nullify the trend. There should not be hypocritical perception of freedom of speech and expression, one for the West where one can say anything against Muslims as one's right, and another for the Muslims whose protest are being ridiculed. I also condemn violent acts of protest on foreign embassies by radical Muslims and regret for the loss of lives.

Despite all the cartoons, obscene movies and vicious lies, it's undeniable that Prophet Muhammad is an example for mankind who continues to be a source of guidance for the masses. That's why Michael Hart named him the most influential figure ever in his book The 100.

Muhammad was the man who, when asked why he stood for a Jewish funeral procession, answered, "Because he was a human being." He was the man who invited Christians to pray in his mosque -- Christians who came specifically to debate and disprove his faith.

Even his enemies admit he transformed the barbaric Arabs into the leaders of mankind.

Regarding the character of the Prophet, take it from famous non-Muslim George Bernard Shaw who states:

"He must be called the Saviour of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much-needed peace and happiness."
