Re: New police officers touted (May 9).

When will politicians and the public finally realize that more police does not mean less crime? Police generally only respond to crime, not prevent it. How much longer will we continue to spend money we don't have?

I suppose the answer is: As long as we allow our government to increase taxes.

Our political leaders need to start asking tough questions rather than the knee-jerk reaction of hiring more police officers.
