Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

No story too big for us

I believe you may need to adjust your calendars, since they appear to be off by several months. Your use of a Page 1 photo of a feces-encrusted squirrel, as well as a detailed story (Toilet contents need help escaping, June 14), with a larger picture of said squirrel, on that same relevant and newsworthy event, must have been intended for April Fools' Day, which has sadly passed.

I can see no other explanation for the inclusion of this truly important article, except for the slim chance your editors were hoping to solidify their claim as the country's best newspaper, as reported in the same edition (Free Press honoured with Excellence in Journalism Award). If so, I was unaware that the definition of "journalistic excellence" had changed.

In the future please include more of this important local content, detailing in full other fauna that has been found in the sewers and toilets of our city. Well done, editorial staff. You have truly earned your paycheques and my respect.
