Re: Sheegl finds the sweet spot (Feb. 1 ). Friday's paper includes major drug busts, death by fire, international spies, kidnapping. But the big front page news and two-thirds of Page 3 is dedicated to where Phil Sheegl parks his car.

Does the Free Press ever get embarrassed by how ridiculous its obsession with Sheegl and Katz is getting? Apparently not.

Is it really front page news that the CAO of the city has chosen to utilize part of a loading area to park his car? Given the parking crunch around City Hall caused by the closing of the Civic Centre parking garage, it makes sense to maximize parking opportunities until additional off-street parking becomes available.

The Free Press identification of the area as a loading zone, which is a designated area on the street governed by bylaw, rather than a loading area, an off-street area not governed by the same bylaw, improperly implies that Sheegl is somehow bending the rules regarding loading zones for his own privilege. This article struck me as petty and vindictive, particularly the irrelevant reference to the make of car Sheegl was driving.

It is inconsiderate and poor optics for our city's chief bureaucrat to occupy a prime parking space which should rightfully be assigned to our highest elected official -- our mayor. I suggest that the appropriate action in this matter is for Phil Sheegl to relinquish his parking space to Mayor Sam Katz for the sum of $1.

This story made me laugh. Such an appropriate spot for the most appropriate person. It allows for a very quick getaway, out the back door, whenever the heat gets turned up too high at city hall. I wonder if there isn't another person wishing there were room for two cars?
