Crossing the street can be a trial for senior pedestrians.
I'm a female senior who walks and buses everywhere I go. It always takes me just a little longer than most to cross at the lights at Portage and Arlington.
One contributing factor is that I'm only five feet tall and so, naturally, have short legs. Please accept my apologies for that.

The worn and rutted pavement at crosswalks makes it feel like I'm navigating hills and valleys, and my bifocals make depth perception a little tricky. Also, many seniors have developed foot, ankle, knee or hip problems, which can slow them up as well.
Don't laugh, young fellow. Your day is coming.
Even with planning all my trips to avoid rush hours, each crossing is a real challenge. Now, add to all that the trip home with a heavy bag of groceries! God help me if I've brought the dog with me.
If only they added two seconds to the length of the amber walk lights, it would help one more granny live to see another day. Don't you dare comment on that!
