Rinks deserve support
I am disheartened by your Nov. 19 story Rinks pushed to the brink. I played hockey for close to 10 years all across the city, so seeing these rinks falling apart is terrible.
Community sports are a great way for kids to be active, make friends and learn a variety of skill sets that video games cannot teach them. I hope that the city can find a way to fix or rebuild these rinks; otherwise, there will be many kids without a place to play.
Maybe taking a small amount from some other expenditures ($180 million on the convention centre?) to invest in the community would be a start to help Winnipeg youths stay off the streets or their couches and be on a rink instead.
