Re: Waiting and waiting for surgery (July 8). I suffer from glaucoma. I am past the point where eye drops can control it; I require surgery.

My ophthalmologist referred me to an eye surgeon on March 6 of this year. I was given an appointment for a consult with the surgeon on June 4. The doctor cancelled this appointment, and my phone calls and letters asking for a rescheduled appointment have resulted in no response from this doctor.

I am in communication with a clinic in Calgary, which can take me in as a patient in less than two weeks' notice. But of course Manitoba says that the procedure is available here, so will not pay for out-of-province treatment.

Meanwhile, I am slowly going blind. I blame NDP socialist medicine for not allowing private clinics to provide highly specialized procedures.
