Letter of the Day
Sending wrong message
Wow. The RCMP are really serious about confronting the sexist environment in the force and welcoming women to their ranks (Mountie keeps job despite conduct, May 23).
When a senior sergeant stocks his office with booze and drinks during work hours, has sex with his subordinates in the office and in a car in the parking lot, exposes himself to co-workers and sexually demeans others, he is reprimanded, loses 10 days' pay and is demoted one rank.
Is the RCMP leadership completely out of it? What a message this sends to women either in or contemplating a career with the RCMP. Do not count on the leadership to be aware, intelligent or sincere in their stated positions. If it were not so grotesque, it would be laughable.
