Re: Cancer fighter battles for smokers (Dec. 19). I am impressed by what Dr. Dhali Dhaliwal has accomplished, not only from a medical perspective but also from the perspective of his willingness to spend time talking to patients who were "going through a rough time."
Dhaliwal's successor will do well to remember cancer is a bully that wreaks havoc on people in physical and emotional ways. All the medical advancements in the world will not negate the need for CancerCare providers to recognize and attend to the emotional needs of their patients.
They will do well to continue to heed the old adage that sometimes the best medical care is administered in the ear of the patient in the form of "words of comfort."
