Re: 'Full coup' by army: Morsi (July 4). Egypt has made history again and showed the world the true meaning of democracy.
If any country elects a government that does not meet the needs and aspirations of its people, it can be removed from power before the next scheduled election.
People in Egypt proved that true democracy is not just winning the election but meeting the needs of the people and not lying to them to get elected. Mohamed Morsi did just that, and that is why he is no longer in power.
Morsi is gone not just because the military removed him, but because the youth of Egypt and others decided that they cannot tolerate this president and his government any more.
They went out and collected 15 million signatures from people across the country who disapproved of his conduct. Fifteen to 20 million people, including members of my own family, went out on the street to protest and express their disapproval, and they stayed there for days.
At the end, a peaceful transition of power started with the appointment of the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court to lead the country in the interim and form a temporary government until the next election that represents all people of Egypt -- Copts, Muslims, liberals, Islamists and others.
