Re: Manitoba Hydro's halcyon days are gone (June 4). Well, that about does it. Time to start the plans to move away from the province I love until sanity is restored. I'm a young man and refuse to be yoked to nonsensical debt because no one in charge of the NDP can apparently do basic math.
A minimum of $1-billion extra to put Bipole III on the west side even though the bid for UNESCO status on the east will be deferred for at least a year and the lines could have been placed there with very minimal damage and higher energy efficiency.
Even worse, the $20-billion price tag for the proposed Keeyask and Conawapa projects will no doubt be low and recovery of it nigh impossible with the energy glut the U.S. is experiencing. Unless the Oklahoma twisters scare the Americans into going green and buying our hydro energy in order to fight climate change, spending this much money may well bankrupt our province.
