Watch the Jets take on the Oilers in style
Con Gislason and Dale Karasiuk have collaborated to create a Free Winnipeg Jets versus Edmonton Oilers Day at the Elmwood East Kildonan Active Living Centre (EEKALC), located at 180 Poplar Ave., on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
"It’s winter, It’s hockey season, so we want to invite everyone to watch the Jets on our 80-inch television." Con said.
"We would really like to see the people of the Chalmers community who are 55+ come and join us." Dale said.
I am usually a patient person, but after seeing the facilities, especially what is known as the "Man Cave" I became very eager to be a few years older and able to join in. Although women are welcome too, the pub-style room has a masculine appeal. Dark red and wood tones surround a games room where no detail has been overlooked.
The dart board flooring is even padded to provide cushioning for those missed shots. From the card tables to the deep-seated loungers, there is a place for all.
Located within an old schoolhouse, I was surprised to find the centre also houses several well-equipped rooms for working on hobbies. Whether you enjoy woodworking or fine arts, the shops rooms has what you need. The designated art room is guaranteed to inspire, while the woodshop has a planer and several new saws. There is a lot of history in this building, but the recent renovations have made this place into a modern facility. Classes are being offered in both spaces and free time is also available.
The Jets/Oilers game is free and open to everyone, while members of EEKALC will receive free food and a door prize ballot. Members are encouraged to invite a friend from the community.
The game will be watched in the main hall on a massive Sharp Aquos. "We also like to watch soccer and we really enjoyed the Olympic curling trials." Con said. "If you live in the neighbourhood I think you will find that we have created something for everyone." said Dale.
