Wellington Crescent is having its water mains replaced to increase fire protection in the area.
The project, which started in mid-July and will run till the end of September, weather permitting, runs along a busy rush hour corridor heading into Osborne Village from the west. Flags and signs have been erected, as well as boards to protect trees in the area.
Kas Zurek, design and construction engineer with the water and waste department at the City of Winnipeg, said protecting the trunks of the trees is a requirement from city arborists.
"The boards are to ensure that the trunks are safe and to protect the integrity of the trees," said Zurek.
