Jaydon McIvor is an 18-year-old athlete who has had a clearly defined goal for quite some time now.
He wants to play professional soccer, and he is working his butt off to achieve his goal. Jaydon plays or trains with three teams in the city as well as adhering to a gruelling training regimen.
Jaydon has played soccer since he was four and has always known that "the beautiful game" is his true love.
"I tried other sports" Jaydon said. "I played some hockey and football but always knew soccer was the game I enjoyed most."
I asked Jaydon why his connection to the game was so strong.
"It’s the feeling when I’m playing. It’s hard to explain. The excitement and anticipation for upcoming games, there is nothing I would rather do."
It seems Jaydon is one of those athletes who has a knack for performing at a high level when the chips are down.
He remembers when, as a young fella, a his team was trailing late in a game at a mind-World Cup tournament and he scored two goals in 49 seconds to help his team win. At an Under-14 national club tournament Jaydon won the Golden Boot award for most goals scored.
Jaydon has been to a number of camps in North America and Europe, showcasing his talents for a number of different leagues and teams. He will soon attend combines in San Diego and Las Vegas and will then head to Sweden for a European showcase of identified players.
Jaydon wanted to mention the role his mom has played his in life.
"Mom has played a huge role in all of these opportunities for me. She is the reason why I have been so fortunate in attending the camps and combines I have," he said.
"Since I was little, no matter how far the drive, or how early in the morning, mom has always been there for me. I am very thankful for having such a good mother."
