Canstar Community News - ONLINE EDITION
Directory highlights Headingley's business growth
The RM of Headingley and Headingley Regional Chamber of Commerce recently released the newest issue of their business directory and copies are disappearing quickly.
"Over 1,300 copies were printed and mailed directly to Headingley residents and businesses," said chamber president Graham Hawryluk, adding additional copies are available at the RM office.
Hawryluk, who owns Meticulous Flooring, said the directory is published every two years. The purpose of it is to keep businesses and residents in the community connected.
"We also like to promote a ‘shop Headingley first’ mentality," Hawryluk added. "I encourage people to support their own local economy and it’s as easy as flipping through a small book which most people in Headingley actually find easier and more convenient than searching online."
The newest issue of the directory is nearly double the size of the previous edition, having grown from 20 pages of advertising to 40. It also features an alphabetical listing of area businesses and local residential phone numbers.
Chamber members receive the first invitation to advertise in the new directory issue. More than 63 businesses booked ads in the new issue.
"Everyone is jockeying for prime position in the book because it is a very valuable marketing tool. There are many Headingley businesses owners, such as myself, that prefer doing business in the community. It’s close to home, close to the office and there is a special sense of pride helping build your own community and meeting people within," Hawryluk said.
He added that his ad in the previous directory generated more business for him than the radio advertising he purchased.
Chiropractor Suzanne Stockmann-Mansell’s office is in Headingley and she agrees with Hawryluk on the value of placing an ad in the directory.
"In Headingley we have new families moving out to the community all the time so it’s also a way of letting them know you are there," she said. "Most of the residents in Headingley are very supportive of local businesses in the community."
