The winning entry in the entrepreneurs with disabilities video contest belongs to bilingual graphic designer and desktop publisher Candace Lipischak and her company Productions Canart Productions in Otterburne, Man.
She was one of four finalists competing for the $1,000 top prize in the "Just Watch Me!" video contest - Prairie Edition.
"We’re thrilled with the number of people who got involved in voting for their favourite entry," says Susan Bater, Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program (EDP) Coordinator for rural Manitoba and spokesperson for the contest. "Candace received just over 45% of the 3,646 votes cast."
The video contest is an initiative of the Community Futures Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program (EDP), and aims to get more people with disabilities interested in being their own bosses. It was open to entrepreneurs within Community Futures White Horse Plains.
Since the contest went live in December, a total of 13 entries were received from people with self-identified disabilities or ongoing health conditions operating a business in rural Saskatchewan or Manitoba.
Dave Devloo, owner of Tama Millwork Ltd in Somerset, Man. won the second place prize in the Seasoned Entrepreneur category. Nancy Weicker an Independent Epicure Selections consultant from Holland, Man. won the first place Manitoba prize in the Start Up Entrepreneur category.
