It’s that time of year again. Time to buy gifts for family and friends, and also donate to help others.
Bob and Jeanine Whitechurch, of Elie, are organizing the Cartier Hamper Fund for the fourth year. Bob said they’re preparing between 25 and 30 hampers to be delivered on Dec. 16 to families within the RM of Cartier.
"We’re looking for non-perishable, non-expired goods," Bob said. They’re also accepting new toys and gift items as well as money. The money is used to buy perishable items, such as turkeys, for the hampers.
Donations can be dropped off at the Cartier municipal office in Elie. School students and church members in Elie, St. Eustache and St. Francois Xavier are also collecting for the hampers.
Bob said the number of hampers has remained almost the same over the past few years, but the need is still there.
The deadline for donations is Dec. 13. The Whitechurches and some extra volunteers will assemble the hampers over the weekend, then municipal volunteer firefighters will deliver them.
