Getting to know your neighbours is the motivation for the upcoming Celebration of Communities.
This event, consisting of a brunch followed by entertainment, takes place on Oct. 6 at 12:30 p.m. in the Starbuck Community Hall.
Organizer Pastor Ron Vert said he came up with the idea for the celebration when he realized that, despite living in Starbuck for 20 years and serving as minister for the local Trinity Lutheran Church, he doesn’t know everyone in the growing town.
"It’s a chance to build our communities," he said. "It’s really not a religious program."
Janelle Nadeau, an acclaimed harpist and vocalist, will be performing after the brunch. Nadeau grew up in the Fannystelle area and usually returns to her family’s farm to help with harvest.

Tickets for the celebration are available at Dawn Til Dusk in Starbuck or by calling Vert at 204-735-2503. Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for ages 14 to 17, $5 for children, and the event is free for infants and toddlers.
If successful, the celebration could become an annual event.
"We’re hoping for 350 attendees," said Vert.
