Get ready, get set, go! The race is on in Morris as Jeremy Barber has been nominated as the Liberal Party candidate.
A byelection to replace Mavis Taillieu as MLA for Morris is scheduled in June. Taillieu resigned her seat in February.
Barber grew up in Sanford and graduated from Sanford Collegiate. He is now completing his fourth year of economics at the University of Manitoba.
In a news release announcing Barber’s candidacy, Liberal leader Dr. Jon Gerrard said, "Jeremy is a very talented young man and exemplifies the spirit of liberalism and the new energy of the Liberal Party."
Barber said he decided to run for the Liberal nomination because he wants to represent the younger generation living within the constituency and bring some of their issues forward.
"A lot of my friends had trouble finding work in their area after graduation," he said, adding that some were forced to take jobs in the north or other provinces.
While he applauds the growth happening as subdivisions open up in some communities surrounding Winnipeg, he wants to ensure that growth is sustainable.
