Five female hockey players and three male players were named to the girls U18 and boys U16 Central Plains Capitals teams, respectively, and will compete in the 2014 Manitoba Winter Games.
The girls are: Hannah Dalrymple of Elie, Chelsea Hallson of Starbuck, Lauren Legault of Elie, Meike Meilleur of Marquette, and Emily Upgang of Poplar Point. The boys are Luke Bossuyt of Oak Bluff, Everett Bestland of Brunkild, and Adam Dufresne of La Salle.
Dalrymple, who is playing for her third year as a forward on the Central Plains Female Capitals AAA Midgets in Portage la Prairie, said she’s pleased to be selected for the regional team.
"This is the first time that I will play on a provincial team," the 16-year-old said.
Upgang plays left wing on the Capitals and is looking forward to learning new skills from some of the older members on the U18 Central Plains team.
Bestland and Dufresne play on the Pembina Valley AAA Bantam Hawks, and both are excited about the prospect of skating on the regional U16 team.
According to a news release, male players competing in the Winter Games from March 2 to 8 in the Winkler area will have the opportunity to be picked for Team Manitoba and compete in the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C. Scouts for the Western and Manitoba Junior Hockey Leagues will be attending the Manitoba games.
