Fitting the right saddle on your horse makes a huge difference in the way you ride and your horse’s performance.

"If you have an incorrect saddle, it will hinder a whole lot of things in the future," said Shawn Seabrook.

Seabrook, from rural Alberta, is an accredited trainer who earned master certification from American Josh Lyons, acknowledged as one of the top trainers in the world.  Seabrook will be bringing his expertise to Hi Point Horsemanship, a riding stable in Dacotah, just off the TransCanada Highway west of St. Francois Xavier, for the third time.

Hi Point owner Sarah Southwell is eager to increase her own coaching knowledge by attending a reined working cow horse clinic from May 24 to 26 and a workshop from June 8 to 10, with Seabrook instructing both.

"Training under Shawn benefits me a lot as a coach," she said.

The May clinic focuses on reining and cutting skills, and will give riders the chance to have their horse work with a cow.

Seabrook said the skills he’ll be teaching are Western, but English riders can benefit as well. His teaching will be tailored to each horse and rider’s experience.

At the June workshop, as well as fitting a saddle, he’ll give practical information on equine chiropractic and dental care. It’s open to all riders as long as their horse is comfortable walking, trotting and loping in a group.

"Horsemanship is a lifelong journey," said Seabrook, adding that there is always more to learn.
Southwell said anyone interested can audit the May clinic for $35 a day.
