New business goes to the dogs (and cats)
Even the best-trained dog can’t wait forever if its owner is held up by traffic congestion or a sudden meeting late in the day.
Rather than facing a mess on the floor and a guilty-looking pet, La Salle residents now have the option of calling on Peddle & Paws owner Laurie Peddle. As long as you’ve pre-registered with her, you can ask her to head to your house and take Fido out for a bathroom break and some needed exercise.
Peddle, who’s lived in La Salle for over five years, opened up her dog-walking and pet-sitting business at the beginning of July. She said she recently retired from the RCMP and wanted to start a home-based business to offer a new service for local residents
"I love animals, and it’s something I thought about for the past few years," she said.
She personally knows the stress experienced by a pet owner who realizes their pet is waiting for them to get home from work to feed or walk them. Or someone who wants to take a holiday, but doesn’t want to board their pet at a kennel. Peddle has had a pet for most of her life, and recently lost her 15-year-old dog Irie.
A member of Pet Sitters International, Peddle was required to complete online training to receive her certification. She offers a variety of services including a dog-sitting package that includes three home visits a day, with one consisting of a 30-minute walk.
She’s willing to care for any type of pet in its home but she doesn’t offer boarding services.
She will walk up to three dogs together from a household if she feels it’s safe to do so, but won’t combine dogs from different homes on walks.
Asked what she sees as her biggest challenge, she said it’s simply to inform La Salle residents about the services she has to offer.
