Staying active in Macdonald
Macdonald Services to Seniors offers the following activities: a cards afternoon at La Salle 50+ Manor on Mondays at 12:45 p.m.; shuffleboard at the Oak Bluff Recreation Centre on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.; an afternoon out at Mandan Manor, Sanford every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. for $1 per person; Whist with a Twist at the Sanford Legion for a cost of $5 per person; a floor shuffle and games afternoon in the Starbuck Hall on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. for $2 per person; and Starbuck senior exercise at Riverdale Apartments on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
The GEMS (Greet, Eat and Meet) seniors program is open to seniors living in the RM of Macdonald and surrounding areas. The cost is $8 per person and lunch is served at noon in Starbuck Hall, 5 Main St. on Wednesdays and in the Sanford Legion at noon on Thursdays.

Keep fit in Headingley
Headingley Seniors’ Services offers hall walking on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. A fit and flex class is being held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A gentle yoga class for those 55 and over is held on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. and a yoga flow class on Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. All classes are held at the Headingley Community Centre, 5353 Portage Ave.

Try a new sport
Pickleball is played in the Headingley Community Centre, 5353 Portage Ave. on Mondays and Tuesdays 6:30 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays 1:30 to 4 p.m., and Thursdays 7:15 to 9:30 p.m.
The cost is $5 a month or $2 for drop-in. Days and times may change so register with Kim Bartlett at KBarlett10@shaw.ca to receive program updates.

Splash for free
A free public swim is offered at Splash Island, 260 Royal Road S in Portage la Prairie every second Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Dates include July 19, Aug. 2, 16 and 30. All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Remembering Jane
July 18th marks the bicentennial of Jane Austin’s death. To note the occasion the Portage la Prairie Regional Library, 40-B Royal Rd. N, will be showing movie adaptations of Jane Austen’s work on Tues., July 18, Wed., July 19 and Fri., July 21 at 6 p.m. for those age 18 years and up.
Tea, followed by a movie, will be served on Sat., July 22 at 1:30 p.m.

Fresh produce available
The Red River Ex Farmers’ Market is open on Saturdays from July 15 to Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local vendors will be selling produce, baking, crafts and more.
Admission and parking are free. The market takes place in Exhibition Park’s south parking lot off Racetrack Road.
Shelmerdine Garden Centre, 7800 Roblin Blvd., is hosting a farmers’ market on Sat., Aug. 12, 19 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fundraising for playground
The community of Springstein will be holding a Carnival Day on Sun., July 23 from noon to 3 p.m. as a fundraiser event for the Springstein Play structure. Admission is $5. There will be a bouncy castle, water slide and games. Lunch will also be available for purchase.
