Linda Daniels is settling into her new job as Phoenix School’s principal, but being principal isn’t a new role for her.
Daniels served as principal of Lakewood School in Winnipeg for 19 years.
"I’d been at Lakewood and I felt I needed a change," she said.
While still within the St. James-Assiniboia School Division, Phoenix School in Headingley is the only school located outside the City of Winnipeg’s boundaries.
Daniels said 160 students from kindergarten to Grade 5 are registered this year, and the school is at capacity. But relief is on the horizon, as construction on a two-classroom addition will begin later in the school year.
"We’re managing quite well," said Daniels.
The extra space will allow for a dedicated music room.
She said the students and staff have been very welcoming, and she’s enjoying the local community.
