Portage's Republic Park receives federal funding

cently announced support for upgrades to Portage la Prairie’s Republic of Manitobah Park under the federal Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Our government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said Bergen. "By improving facilities at the Republic of Manitobah Park, we are helping to boost economic activity and are tangibly enhancing the quality of life for the city of Portage la Prairie and area."

The investment of $70,500 will enhance services provided by the Portage Regional Recreation Authority. Under the project, the washrooms and change rooms at the park’s athletic fields will be renovated.

In the Economic Action Plan 2012, the government committed $150 million over two years for projects to improve existing community infrastructure accessible used by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
